NoiseAir were recently appointed to carry out a Noise Impact Assessment at Ripon Grammar School, North Yorkshire. The renowned school boasts excellent sports facilities at its Ripon campus which attracts not only the school pupils, but also local clubs and sports events. The school's recently installed 3G all-weather sports pitch is now being used on a regular basis for football, rugby, rounders, lacrosse and athletics training.
A common problem with such facilities however is the noise generated from activity on the pitch. For example, the sound of a ball repeatedly impacting the fence, a referee's whistle blowing, shouting from players, particularly in the evening hours has the potential to create a disturbance to local residents.
NoiseAir acoustic consultants initially carried out a Noise Impact Assessment of the facility to establish the noise levels experienced at local receptor sites (i.e. local residents' properties), with a view to determining the requirements to reduce noise breakout.
Our consultants used 3D sound modelling software as part of the assessment, which allowed the consultants to determine the necessary specification of acoustic blankets to mitigate the noise (including specific height, length and density of blankets to give the desired result).
The results of the assessment were presented to the school with a number of different options. A configuration was agreed within the allocated budget, and the blankets were then manufactured and installed by NoiseAir in their preferred colour.
